Storyline shines in new flick ‘Prime’

The romantic comedy “Prime” is truly a rollercoaster.

Rafi (Uma Thurman), a recently divorced 37-year-old woman has anything but romance on her mind when she confesses her deepest secrets and feelings with her long-time therapist Lisa (Meryl Streep).

It isn’t until one night when Rafi is out with a group of friends that a certain someone catches her eye. David (Bryan Greenberg), an aspiring artist, is taken with her and asks for her number through mutual friends.

The beginning of the relationship is almost like a fairytale – they are drawn to each other. Rafi knew that David was quite a bit younger than she – he told her he was 27 years old at first, until it slipped out that he is actually only 23. Rafi tells David she can’t see him anymore, but his charm eventually convinces her otherwise.

Rafi continues to see David and receives counsel from Lisa about their relationship. She confesses her deepest feelings and concerns about her relationship with David, and tells Lisa that he is 27, because she is embarrassed about the age difference. After some time, though, Lisa realizes that Rafi’s object of affection is no ordinary man from the street, but actually her son. As Rafi and David’s relationship furthers, his charm begins to wear. Rafi eventually decides that David isn’t ready for the relationship that she is looking for, and breaks it off. When Lisa hears the news, she couldn’t be more than happy. But as Lisa begins to realize how unhappy both her son and her client are, she feels it is her duty to bring them back together.

This definitely isn’t another chick-flick, but a story of two people who can’t seem to stay together or stay apart as they try to find themselves in the world. It’s a reminder of how small the world can truly be and how hard love can really be to work at. “Prime” is one movie that will have viewers laughing and guessing until the end.
