CORRECTION

Several statements were incorrectly reported in a Dec. 10, 2004, Advocate article about an MHCC student who was trying to find a place to live that was wheelchair accessible. The story reported that Abby Stolhand and her mother had conversations with a prospective landlord, David Moss, and they expressed dissatisfaction with their interactions with him.

After reviewing the story and accounts from both sides about what transpired, The Advocate agrees with the landlord on several points:

1) The landlord did not promise to build a wheelchair ramp for Abby Stolhand, as reported in the story.

2) The landlord never said he did not have enough time to build a ramp, as implied in the article, since he never agreed to build a ramp in the first place.

3) The landlord did not change his mind about building a ramp, as reported.
The landlord maintains he was willing to help but that delays on the part of the applicant created problems with the move-in deadline.

In addition, the Advocate reporter tried in several ways to contact the landlord but was unsuccessful.

There are several other statements reported in the story that the landlord says he did not make, but upon review, there is disagreement between the parties about what occurred or was said.

The Advocate regrets the errors.
