The MHCC Club Fair offered contests and fresh popcorn, and a mixture of information from various clubs and an open door to explore them.

The diversity of each club and their eager representatives made it simple for students to learn about each club.

One booth not only offered a membership but cultural awareness as well. The Asian Cultures Appreciation Club is in its second year at MHCC and is run by president Rachel Caldwell along with representatives Kathy Le, Matt Hutson and Kristi Tran.

ACAC will be celebrating the Lunar New Year Feb. 8 from noon to 3 p.m. in the Vista Dining Center. A celebration of Korea, Vietnam and China along with different dances, martial arts, door prizes and raffle tickets will be part of the festivities. “Everyone is welcome,” said Hutson.

The Club Fair’s diversity offers information on a serious subject as well. Some people may have passed the Mental Health Club booth without a second glance. But if they had, they could see how the MHC could lead to a future in helping others.

Club representative Shaun Anderson explained that the program provides support for students through communication skills, youth track and drug and alcohol training, mock interviews and much more.

They have fundraisers and charity drives such as a recent a collection of clothes for migrant workers.

They also offer transfer degrees and can provide students with internships. Anderson called the program “phenomenal. It is the best program in the state as far as getting you prepared.”
