As we celebrate black history and women’s history this month, it is important for us to realize why we do it.

By remembering and admiring the strength and perserverance of those who helped our society arrive at its current state of tolerance and diversity, we may come to better understand what it will take from our generation to further this cause.
While many people mistakenly see this as an academic exercise, irrel

evant to our modern society, the truth is that oppression and discrimination are alive and well. By looking at our history and how we have progressed, perhaps we can see how we may become closer to an ideal society.

As long as anyone anywhere is being treated unfairly, we have more to accomplish. Attend the events this month not to just look at our past, but as a way to unlock the door to a better future for all people.
