Attleberger big asset to struggling Saints all season

Sophomore forward Christa Attleberger was a very valuable player on the MHCC women’s basketball team this season, always playing at the top of her game despite competing for a less than perfect Saint’s squad.

While the team often struggled, Attleberger was a force, firing shots and snatching up rebounds, including a seven-rebound performance in the final game of the regular season against Chemeketa Wednesday evening.

“I just went out looking to try my hardest for the team,” she said of her play throughout the season and on Wednesday evening.

Attleberger was honored for her play earlier this season when she was selected as an All-Tournament player at the Everett Tournament on Dec. 4. A game against the South Puget Sound Clippers during the meet also happened to be the Saints only win of the season.
During the 67-51 victory, Attleberger played 38 minutes, was six for six with free-throw shots and had 20 points overall.

She said her biggest weakness during the season was allowing too many turnovers.
Attleberger’s head coach, Brianna Finch, said she was among one of the biggest contributors and most consistent players for the Saints all season.

“Christa and Kristen (Tillstrom) have probably been our most consistent players,” Finch said in an interview in December.

Since December, Attleberger improved more by scoring 23 points in a game against Linn-Benton on Feb. 19, and also turning-in a 12-rebound performance on Feb. 9 against Portland.
