The Mt. Hood Community College women’s basketball team was defeated by Chemeketa, 72-26, at home Wednesday, bringing a tough season to a close.

The Saints, who finished 0-14 in league play and 1-27 overall, had a shaky outlook from the beginning when they lost some players to personal issues and injury going into the first few games of the season.

“We didn’t have a lot of numbers but we did play well as a team,” said sophomore forward Christa Attleberger.

Another struggle the team had was that they competed well early in games but could not keep the momentum up after half-time.

“We are competitive for the first halves, but we’re having trouble putting out for the full 40 minutes,” said head coach Brianna Finch in an interview earlier this season. “We lost focus and control of the little details,” she added.

This and other problems plagued the team from preseason on. They collected their only win of the season in a 67-51 victory against the South Puget Sound Clippers on Dec. 4 at Everett Community College.

“We didn’t do so well, but at least we came out and won one game,” said Attleberger.
“I just wish we would have won more games,” she added.
