Open gym to be closed end of next week

Open recreation at the athletic/HPE building will be available at noon Monday through Wednesday. The facilities will not be available Thursday and Friday because MHCC is hosting the 2005 Northwest District AAHPERD Convention.

All programs and facilities will be closed during the week of Spring break, including the Aquatic Center, racquetball courts, weight room, ACT Room and the gym.

The next Sportfight is scheduled for March 26.

Physics demonstration coming to Science Department

The MHCC Science Department will be hosting Stanley “Dr. Stan” Micklavzina’s “Science Circus” tonight at 7:30 p.m. in Room 1710. The performance is entitled “From Newton to Einstein: What the heck is wave/particle duality?” and is an interactive, hands-on physics demonstration.

This event is part of the World Year of Physics 2005 celebration marking the centennial of three of Einstein’s most important theories. “Dr. Stan” will take a family-friendly approach to explaining how light waves affect everyday life.

View the Sun from inside the MHCC Planetarium

The MHCC Planetarium Sky Theater will be showing “The Universe: An Amazing Journey from the Sun to the Most Distant Galaxies” at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, March 14.
The hour-long program features pictures of the Sun and images from the Hubble Telescope from a recently released DVD.

Planetarium Director Doug McCarty will also show visitors how to find Saturn and Jupiter in the sky and provide tips for viewing planets and the moon.

This event is open to the public and admission is $1. Seats are available on a first come/first served basis. The planetarium is located beneath the library on the Gresham campus.

Public planetarium shows occur the second Monday of every month through August. Customized programs are available by calling (503) 491-7297, and on the web at www.starstuff.com.

Mental Health Club collecting clothes

The Mental Health Club is sponsoring a clothing drive now thought March 15. Bins are located in front of the Allied Health building and are accepted from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Clothing will be donated to agencies in the community for needy families.
