The Mt. Hood Community College baseball team swept a doubleheader from the Linn-Benton Roadrunners 4-2, 2-0 at MHCC Tuesday.

Pitcher Shannon Wirth, all-league first-team and all-tournament selection at last year’s NWAACCC’s won the first game for the Saints. Zach Bird, sophomore transfer from Western Arizona Community College, pitched a complete game shutout in the seven-inning nightcap.

The win puts the Saints just one game behind Lane Community College for the Southern Division lead.

MHCC is on the road Saturday at Southwestern Oregon Community College. SWOCC helped bring the Saints within a game of first by splitting their doubleheader with the Lane Titans Tuesday.

The Saints return home for a six-game stretch, beginning Tuesday, April 12, with a doubleheader against Lane that could be crucial for the Saints division title hopes.
