The Mt. Hood Community College Theater will host Culture Night, an evening of variety and snacks honoring ESL Awareness Week. Presented by the ESL program at MHCC, Culture Night is Tuesday with doors opening at 6:15 p.m. and the performance beginning at 6:40 p.m.

The multicultural performance will feature an art display from a Romanian artist, Conjunto dances from Central America performed by CASS students and, a Hungarian Dance Troupe called Aratas who will teach as well as dance. A West African drummer from Ghana, Chata Addy, will start off the event, and Alton Chung, a professional Asian storyteller will also perform.
Pastries from several ethnic bakeries around the city will also be served.

Gov. Kulongoski proclaimed next week “ESL Awareness Week” in an “effort to raise consciousness of the many English language learners” in Oregon, according to Amy Widger, an ESL/ENL instructor at MHCC.

“Oregon has a growing immigrant and refugee program and learning vocational, educational and personal goals here in the United States,” said Widger. This free event is open to the public.
