Through the years with their charitble donations and designs for local buisnesses, The Graphic Design program at MHCC has shown a lot of heart to a lot of people.

For 32 years, the Graphic Design program, headed by Christina Maier since 1988, has well known to local businesses. Students compete for jobs designing t-shirts and poster advertisements.

From the Theater Department's latest production of "Henry V" to designing the for Special Olympics t-shirts for six years, the graphic design students have designed logos and advertisements for several different areas.

"They give you their life for two years. You have to develop their skills and help them get a good job," Said Maier.

Paul Wilken, whose design for "Henry V" has been printed on thousands of posters, and his fellow 16 graphic design majors will spend 10-hour days in classes for the program twice a week, says Maier.

Students who design these pieces of art are rewarded during the term with experience for resumes and future projects. Wilken won a 12-credit waiver for his contribution for the play. Other prizes have included cash rewards.

Maier says she's impressed with the integrity and talent of her students. "Students who go here are committed. For two years, they have a goal in mind and are very committed."
