Henry V reigns once again

As the lights are lowered, the chandelier is raised and flags of honor are hanging in the intimate setting Director Rick Zimmer has created, you enter the world of King Henry V.
The spring production of Shakespeare's "The life of Henry V" will be presented for the next two weekends in the Studio Theater. Away from the main stage where productions are usually held, the Studio Theater creates more of an intimate setting for the audience and cast.

Young King Henry V (performed by Jeff Watson) must prove his worthiness of the British throne. After being insulted by the French court, he invades France with a small, weak army. Dealing with his inner demons regarding the war and watching his troops fall, Henry V must find strength within himself before fighting the famous Battle of Agincourt.

With the actors and audience closer together, audience members may be able to tell that some performers are used twice for different characters.

Beyond this stumble in production, the actors’ grasp of the Shakespearean language entwines you in the story and action. Even with the traditional male cast, Zimmer managed to put a few female characters in soldier and servant roles.

The costumes, by Sumi Wu, add to the historical feel of the entire play. From the French royalty, British royalty, to the peasants’ rags, each piece of clothing mirrors what was traditionally worn during the time of Henry V.

The director, cast and everyone involved in this production have done a wonderful job of portraying this theater classic.

“The Life of King Henry V” will be performed April 29 and 30, May 5, and 7 at 8 p.m. and May 1 and 8 at 2 p.m. For ticket information, call 503-491-7154.
