The Rites of Spring this week was forced to start inside the College Center by the arrival of some unwanted weather.

“Unfortunately, with this weather, there’s never as many students,” said Amy Carroll, the Seasonal Events Coordinator for Student Activities Board.

QASO had to postpone their water balloon event due to the weather, and other group’s activities were also affected. The Latter Day Saints Student Association had to cancel their idea of having a basketball court outside to attract more students.

Many groups, though, still had a good outlook on the event.

“It’s a great opportunity to let the station out,” said Kelsey Mousley, one of the students involved with the radio program X58 at MHCC. “We need all the publicity we can get.”
The nursing students drew much attention with their various booths during the week. On Tuesday there was a “Dangers of Binge Drinking” booth set up where students could wear a pair of drunk goggles and attempt to walk a straight line or catch a ball being thrown at them.

Nursing students also had a booth on Wednesday to raise awareness about living wills. Karen Kohn, a nursing student and the vice president of the Student Nursing Association, decided to take the booth to Rites of Spring in hopes to educate people and show them how they can set up a living will, and why it’s important.

There was also a wide variety of entertainment rincluding MHCC’s Tae Kwon Do Club andt musicians performing. A caricature artist was also offered to students free of charge.
Things picked up as the weather improved Wednesday, ensuring a better turn out and more student involvement.
