Graduation deadline today
Today is the deadline to have a student’s name added to the commencement program. Graduation applications may still be submitted and students will be eligible to attend and walk.

Cooking class you can eat
Learn to make a Japanese dinner, then eat it with the MHCC chapter of the American Association for Women in Community Colleges May 25 at 6 p.m. For reservations, call Linda Neumann at 503-491-6998. The cost is $20 and all proceeds benefit the Shelie Macias Memorial Scholarship fund.

Political science class today
Political science students will hold their annual conference at the Columbia Gorge Riverside Lodge today from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The conference is open to all and will be held in Stevenson, Wash. Presentations will discuss “Rights, freedom, security and social order: Where are the limits?” For more information, contact Janet Campbell at 503-491-7430.

CASS needs host families
The Cooperative Association of States for Scholarships (CASS) is looking for host families for CASS scholars from Central America and the Caribbean who will arrive in August. Host families receive a $265 per month stipend to offset the cost of housing which includes room, three meals a day and household utilities. Public hearing for student fee budget
Associated Student Government will be holding public heaings on the student fee budget for 2005-06 Tuesday, May 24, 3-4 p.m. and Wednesday, May 25, 1-2 p.m. in the College Center Council Chambers. All are welcomed to attend.


6th Annual Student Science Seminar

The MHCC Science Club will be hosting the 6th Annual Student Science Seminar today, May 20, 3 p.m. in AC 1303. The event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.

Portfolios on display
The Integrated Media program will be holding a “portfolio show” June 6, 12-7 p.m., in the Town and Gown Room.

Spring Awards Dinner
The ASG/SAB sponsored Spring Awards Dinner/Dance will be May 27, 7-11 p.m. The festivities will include dancing, bull riding, “unsung hereos” presentations, club awards and the year in review. Attire is semi-formal. Tickets are $7 at the door and $5 in advance. Advanced tickets may be purchased in the College Center.

Poetry Slam
The Poetry Slam is May 24, noon-1 p.m., in the Town and Gown Room. Students may enter the Poetry Slam by contacting the Humanities Department.

Perceptions Reading
The English Department and ASG are sponsoring a reading of “Perceptions” magazine Friday, May 27, 6-9 p.m. at McMenamin’s Edgefield, Troutdale. For more information, call ext.7290.

Genesis releases new CD
MHCC award-winning vocal group Genesis will be a part of the MHCC vocal jazz festival on May 20 and 21.


The CD release party will take place at 7:30 p.m. today in the MHCC gymnasium.


Genesis will celebrate with jazz vocalist Nancy King and pianist Steve Christofferson. Admission is free.
