Compost gets boost from MHCC food service

After years of decay, the Metro Home Composting Center is getting rejuvenated.

The composting center was made in the ’90s by metro and local volunteers, but for the last three years it has not been used or maintained. That was until last month, when Nathan Light, a member of the MHCC Science Club, took the initiative to revitalize the center.
Along with help from fellow Science Club members and volunteers, Light is rebuilding the center and putting its compost stations back to work.

The Vista Dining Room staff are also helping by providing food for composting and the theater department has donated sawdust. The Head Start Program at MHCC is teaching kids about compost with field trips to the composting center every Friday.

People interested in helping can join the composting team, which meets every Wednesday at the composting center, 2:30 to 3:30 p.m.
