City construction creates car chaos

For the next five to six weeks, the Mt. Hood Community College campus will be inconvenienced because the north Kane Road exit will be closed.

The City of Troutdale is in the middle of an $800,000 project, putting utilities underground along SE Stark Street and Kane Road, in Gresham. “The estimated time for the project will put the construction into July,” said Multnomah County spokesperson Michael Pullen.

For the time being, the North Kane exit, closest to lot W at Mt. Hood’s campus, will be closed due to the construction. “The proximity of this construction to that exit makes it extraordinarily difficult to exit the campus from there, and the line of sight is hampered,” said Don Wallace, director of facilities management for the college. “Traffic will be redirected to the 29th Street exit or the old ‘main entrance’ exit, and to the Stark Street exit for cars going in that direction.”
