Fallen police to be honored
There will be a candlelight vigil to honor fallen police officers 7 p.m. Saturday in the Social Sciences Division Lobby.

The ceremony has been organized by Chris Gorsek, head of the criminal justice department at MHCC, and will honor 156 officers who fell in the line of duty in the United States in 2004 with candel-lighting and a reading of the officer’s names.

The ceremony takes place at the end of National Police Week, a holiday started by President John F. Kennedy. Kennedy declared May 15 as National Peace Officer Memorial Day and the week of May 15 as National Police Week.

For more information, call Gorsek at (503) 491-7321.
