The writers and creators of “Perceptions” magazine are preparing for the release of their 2005 edition.

The magazine showcases the artistic talents of students and people in the MHCC community. Examples from poetry, short fiction and non-fiction stories, and visual art fill the 141 page magazine.

“Production went really well this year. We met all the deadlines and the graphic designers were really awesome. It came out really nice,” said editor-in-chief of “Perceptions,” Megan Jones.

Along with Jones, the magazine was created with help from over 50 students; the magazine includes over 150 entries for poetry, 20 submissions for fiction and non-fiction stories, and over 2-dozen pieces of visual art. This year, the magazine also includes a CD.

“Each year we’ve had one person that’s mastered the CD and put it all together,” said Jones. The CD includes nine tracks from local artists.

The making of the magazine also included some artistic skills. Simona Rusnac and Theresa Rohrer, both students from the graphic design program here at MHCC, used their talents to make the magazine visually appealing.

“They did all the graphics themselves, designed it from beginning to end. Everything from getting the posters from submissions in the fall term to sending out,” said Jonathan Morrow, faculty advisor of “Perceptions.”

This Friday the creators of the magazine are celebrating the release of the magazine at McMenamin’s Edgefield in Troutdale at 2126 SW Halsey St. from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. with food and readings from the artists.

“[The magazine has] been around for more then 20 years,” said Morrow. “Next year I’m hoping we’re going to do more multi-media stuff as well as having a CD, DVD with student’s digital video work and people from the community’s digital video work.”
