'Magic Theater' wows audiences

Nicole Donner

The Advocate

The colorful cast of “Magic Theater” wows audiences with their simplistic ideas and wild imagination. Using colors, shapes, music and stories, this play is entertainment for the young and old.

With a set that almost replicates a child’s playroom with building blocks and shapes suspended from the ceiling, it creates an environment comfortable for the younger crowd. Without wasting time, the cast bounces on to the stage, all in brightly colored overalls and filled to the brim with energy. After roll call and saying “the magic spell,” the actors move quickly and keep the enthusiasm the entire time.

This play moves through various skits from monsters in your bedroom, using your imagination, to letting your anger out. With lots of audience participation and jokes among the cast, kids will indeed be entertained and educated all at once.

Towards the end of the play, the entire cast breaks out into a rendition of “Do you believe in Magic?” as a small band consisting of acoustic guitar, electric guitar, tambourine, bass and saxophone help keep the beat. Just as a person starts to believe the play to be over, saxophonist Christopher Keller kicks the energy into high gear as the cast disperses themselves into the audience.

Children of all ages will scream, laugh and play along with the cast. This play is perfect for a nice family outing.
