Greetings from your ASG
Stephen Emery
ASG President

WeHello, students of Mt. Hood Community College. My name is Stephen Emery and I am the president of Associated Student Government. My main objective for fall term is to encourage student involvement in student leadership around campus because the more diversity we have in clubs and student government, the stronger our student government will be.

There are many opportunities to be a student leader around campus. For example, students can join one of the many clubs on campus and become an officer. Clubs are always looking for new members so they can get fresh ideas for their activities.

Students can join the Student Activities Board. SAB organizes many events such as live concerts, comedy shows and seasonal events and parties. Many positions are currently open. But if that’s not your cup of tea, we are always looking for volunteers.

Last but not least, you can join the student government. ASG handles the business and leadership side of the Student Association. We are a liaison for the students on a variety of levels: before the legislators in Salem, community officials and the MHCC administration. We still have a few positions open, including State and Federal Affairs Director and Administrative Assistant.

We also have a few Student Senator positions open. All our Student Activities Board, student government, and Student Senator positions are paid, so you are compensated for the work that you do.

If you are unsure if you are ready or willing to get involved in student government, look for us during Welcome Week on the first week of school. It is Monday through Thursday from 11a.m.-1p.m. in the Main Mall. There will be concerts and many giveaways each day. You will be able get a feel for what we do and if you would like to be apart of it.
If you are one of those students who just want to go to classes and not really get involved or just don’t have time to get any more involved, that’s cool. I hope to meet you. I would like to ask you one favor. Come by the student government table during Welcome Week, next week, and tell me one or two things that if they were changed would make you experience at Mt. Hood a much better place.

Mt. Hood Community College is about the students and you are the ones I want to hear from. I can hear a lot of things from many people, but I want to hear from you. The people that count, the students. If you ever need anything, come find me in the College Center. Have a great first few weeks of the term.
