Library isn’t a repeat of last year

Congratulations to the construction workers who labored through the summer on a stretched budget and squeezed schedule to remodel the library in time for students to have a place to study, research and check out materials necessary to their educations. They hit their deadline, right on schedule.

Last year, this wasn’t the case. As students began trickling back from their summer endeavors, they encountered confusion as they tried to navigate long lines and locate services that were crammed into the College Center. Nearing October, the lines in financial aid were supplanted with a skeleton whose sign said it all, “Still waiting in the financial aid line.” Not to mention that the College Center could not function the way it was supposed to.

This year, students are returning to an updated and, hopefully, a more comfortable area to study. Gone are the days of musty books and uninviting chairs. Out with the old and in with the new, as the wise old sage would say.

Lucky are we.

Finding a place to study on campus is an invaluable thing. Everyone has quirks associated with their study habits– for some it is that they cannot stand the clackity-clack of a keyboarder with strong fingers, for others it may be the soft murmur of voices overrides their internal thoughts. No matter how one studies, the library promises to be another potential study place, one more like a living room than a computer lab.

The library might not fit everyone’s ideal place to study, but it will certainly prove a necessity at some point in anyone’s academic career. It is nearly impossible to avoid doing research, and that is mainly what the library is for.

No matter what draws a student to the library, they are bound to find themselves pleased with the library’s new face. Although it may not become a home away from home, it will be a part of the building that people enjoy visiting and want to return to again.
