Sarina Dorie brings ‘Hidden Messages of Trees’

A new display in the College Center showcases the relationship between nature and humankind

Mt. Hood Community College shows off Sarina Dorie’s latest artwork, “Hidden Message of Trees” in the College Center Fireplace Gallery.

“My art is about our relationship with nature; the kinds of feelings we have towards the environment and how we affect it,” said Dorie. “Forests represent the primal, unconscious realm of the mind, the deep place where we lock our secrets within.”

Portland artist Dorie received her masters in education from PSU in 2004 in licensure in art for grades K-12. Dorie has a bachelors degree in fine arts in illustration from the Pacific Northwest College of Art as well as an associates degree in art from Clackamas Community College. Her work can be found in private and public collections in Korea, Portland, Salem, Clackamas and Oregon City.

Throughout her artwork of trees and landscapes are hidden messages and faces. “Hidden in my paintings and murals are faces, words, even toxins destroying the environment. I do this to cause others to think, study and use their imagination. It is my way of entering the subconscious,” said Dorie.

“Hidden Messages of Trees” is on display in the College Center Fireplace Gallery through Nov. 17. The College Center Fireplace Gallery is located in Room 1051 and is open Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Fridays from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
