MHCC preview night to focus on Latino community
Mt. Hood Community College will be opening its doors to prospective Latino students Wednesday at a Latino-targeted College Preview Night. David Arguello, an academic advisEr involved with the event, said, “The purpose is to provide an open, welcoming environment to encourage students to register at Mt. Hood Community College to continue with their education.” He added that it was also to make Latino students aware of resources available to them. Different clubs and departments at MHCC will have an opportunity to set up booths and present at the preview. Dinner will be served, and a panel of students from the Latino Club and Oregon Leadership Institute will answer questions. The event is primarily targeted at high school students and their parents, but ESL students are encouraged to attend and anyone interested in meeting faculty and learning more about programs is welcome to attend. Arguello said that parents of teens sometimes inquire about ESL or GED classes or the welding program. Arguello said those who attend would have a better chance of enrolling because they had an opportunity to meet people from the same culture who speak the same language. The event will be conducted mostly in Spanish; it will be held in the Vista Dining Center, Room 2000 on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. It is expected to last until about 8:30 p.m.

Arguello dijo que aquellos que atiendan tendrán mejor chance de inscribirse porque tuvieron la oportunidad de conocer a gente de la misma cultura que habla su mismo idioma. La mayor parte del evento será conducido en Espa?ol; se llevará a cabo en el Vista Dining Center, cuarto 2000 el miércoles a las 6:30 p.m. Se espera que dure como hasta las 8:30 p.m.
