MyMHCC is open. Are you ready? Mt. Hood Community College is catching up with the technology of the twenty-first century. Our new website was launched winter quarter, and MyMHCC, our much anticipated web portal, was made available at the start of spring quarter. The next step for our campus community is the integration and utilization of these tools. There has been some grumbling about the new website, which is to be expected when we are confronted with change. The portal, on the other hand, is a completely new tool to MHCC. The usefulness of MyMHCC is great: instructors can leave messages for students about assignments, class cancellations and due dates. If a student misses a class, handouts could be made available through MyMHCC. Getting the campus community to start using this new tool may be the next hurdle. Student Online Services has a link from MyMHCC. Steven Smith, Title III instructional systems designer who was brought to the college to bring the project to fruition, has been heading training sessions for faculty. One hope is instructors will start utilizing MyMHCC and in so doing, will bring students to the portal. The portal and the website are still equally useful tools for the college. The website has grown into a public relations tool for the school, as it in some cases is the first look at MHCC students will get. The portal will become the way the campus community convenes online.
