“Good as Gold” week

Phi Theta Kappa’s Mt. Hood chapter, Rho Theta, will celebrate its founder’s day with a week-long tribute entitled “Good as Gold.”

Because the founder’s day is on a Saturday (Nov. 19) this year, the nationwide two-year college honor society decided to host its celebration for an entire week. Normally, Rho Theta just sets up a cake in the College Center for students on the society holiday, but this year their “Good as Gold” week will feature a number of different activities for student body outreach.

Monday, Nov. 14, will have officers and members painting their faces blue and gold, the representative colors of the society. Tuesday will feature a presentation in Room 1005 by literature instructor Gerry Barra on the goddess Athena, one of the symbols of Phi Theta Kappa. The presentation will run from noon to 1 p.m.

On Wednesday, members will be encouraged to wear any apparel that features the name or symbol of either Rho Theta or Phi Theta Kappa and Thursday there will be a table set-up in the College Center with information on the honor society and how to join.

The officers manning the table will be dressed in blue and gold togas all day. To wrap up the week, all members will be asked to wear as much blue and gold (or yellow) as they can.

Rho Theta’s Addie Underwood said the main idea of the week is to pique student’s interest in the honor society. “We’re hoping to get the questions like ‘why are they dressed like that?’ or ‘why are their faces painted?’ so that it shows that more students are gaining interest in it.”

The society will also be sharing information at the Night Student Reception, Nov. 14-16.

A Reason to be Cheerful

The Children’s Theater production “Reasons to be Cheerful” will have its final showing on Saturday, Nov. 19, from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

The show is not yet soldout. Tickets are $2 a person. Everyone is welcome to view the performance by MHCC actors in the performing arts theater.

Faculty shows-off their art

The Visual Arts Gallery is now showcasing staff member’s artwork as part of the MHCC Visual Arts Faculty Exhibit.

The exhibit opened Tuesday, Nov. 7, following a reception. It features pieces of art from full-time and part-time faculty members who teach in the visual arts department.
Mt. Hood’s faculty exhibit will run through November 18.
