See a movie, get involved

In an effort to get more student participation at MHCC, the Associated Student Government has come up with the idea to show free movies in the College Center Lounge every Tuesday. Each month will have a theme, November’s theme will be ‘College’, and a lecture will follow each film.

“The campus activity board is designed to enrich life, give the students something to do,” said Adrieanne Underwood, performance coordinator for the Student Activities Board (SAB). As an option for students who head home for lunch, they can catch a flick between classes from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Free popcorn will also be served at each movie showing.

After the movie, there will be an optional staff lead lecture about the movie and how each one is related. Each lecture will vary with the theme of the month. The first showing was Tuesday, Nov. 8 in the College Center. The movie was “Man of the House” with Tommy Lee Jones and Cedric the Entertainer.

Sponsored by the SAB, the event also encourages students to fill out survey forms to find out what the SAB can do for students. Other movies like ‘Legally Blonde’ will be shown on Nov. 15, ‘Van Wilder’ on Nov. 22 and ‘Son-in-Law” on Dec. 6.
