Employees give to Food Bank
MHCC employees gave generously to the Oregon Food Bank during the Holiday Breakfast Dec. 16.
A total of $235 in cash and 224 lbs. in food was given.
The Joint Leadership Council thanks everyone for their “incredible generosity this holiday season,” according to Pam Benjamin, personal assistant to the president.
Lost and found awareness
The staff of the College Center reminds students and staff of the college’s lost and found office.
“Most people do not realize [the College Center is] the lost and found office,” said bookkeeper Paula Cline.
Anyone who has lost items can go to the College Center and check the lost and found.
Book sales help scholarship
A winter book sales raised $390 for the Shelie Macias Memorial Scholarship.
Combined with other fund-raisers, $2,400 of the $5,000 has been raised. The scholarship is offered to students pursuing a degree in the Adult Education Program.

MHCC to host “Big Band”
The MHCC Jazz Band will perform in the Big Band Extravaganza Jan 10.
Under the direction of MHCC music instructor Susie Jones, the jazz band will play with the University of Oregon and University of Wisconsin jazz bands.
The band will also be selling their new album, I’m New Here, to raise funds for a trip to Taiwan.
The performance will be in the MHCC Theater at 7:30 p.m. and tickets are $5. For more information, contact the music department at (503) 491-6969.
Staff members win award
The 2005 Outstanding Support Staff Award was given to Elizabeth Gomez, Dorothy Bray and Larry Stevens.
Gomez was given the award for her work as MHCC foundation bookkeeper, district budget analyst and many other jobs. Stevens was honored for his work on the custodial staff. Bray is noted for her work at the front desk of the Maywood Park campus.
The recipients were honored at the Holiday Breakfast and will be presented at the Jan. 12 district board meeting and the Jan. 26 MHCC Foundation Meeting.
ASG loses two members
Vice President Marc Bandeira and Director of Communications Jonathan Smith have resigned their Associated Student Government positions.
Senator Stephen Emery will be sworn in as vice president today by ASG President Bud Khuth.
ASG is looking for a new director of communications. Applications are available in the Student Center. The position pays a 12-credit tuition waiver. Deadline to turn in applications is Friday, Jan. 14. |
