Spring Registration begins soon
Spring registration begins Feb. 25 for students who have applied for graduation, Feb. 28 for students with over 46 credits, March 1 for returning students and March 7 for new students. Returning students may register on the web at www.mhcc.edu or use touch-tone registration by calling 503-491-6000.
Admissions forms are located in the Student Services area, and can also be obtained online at www.mhcc.edu. Office hours are from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Phone registration for non-credit classes, may be made by contacting MHCC’s Continuing Education Department at 503-491-7572 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Nominate your teacher
The President’s Office is accepting nominations for the 2005 Distinguished Teaching Awards. Forms are available in the President’s Office anytime between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Nominations may be submitted by any member of the college community. The deadline to return completed nominations is April 1 by 5 p.m.
Run for President
You could be president. Packets are available in the College Center for those interested in running for Associated Student Government President. The candidates run on a slate — president and vice president running together — in an election held during spring quarter. Contact the College Center for application deadlines.
Guest speaker to talk about health disparity
The Student Activities Board is hosting a guest speaker, Corlis Mckeiver, Feb. 22, in the College Center from noon to 1 p.m. Mckeiver is a professor of urban health at Portland State University, the president of the African-American Health Coalition and recipient of the Willamette Valley Development Award. She will be discussing the topic of health disparity.
Free blood pressure screening
The Student Nurses Association will be holding a free blood pressure screening Feb. 23 from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the College Center Lounge. Contact Chrissy Bloome at [email protected] or call 503-491-7600.
“Women Change America” wraps up
“World War II Through the Eyes of a Japanese Girl,” with Michiko Kornhauser, will be held Feb. 22 in the Town and Gown Room from noon to 1 p.m. Kornhauser will be describing what she experienced and learned as well as how she survived the firebombs dropped by B-29s. Japanese snacks will be served.
The MHCC Forensics Team will be discussing “Women and 9/11” in the Town and Gown Room on Feb. 24 from noon to 1 p.m. The team will be honoring the women of ground zero, specifically showing that women are strong, brave and heroic. Strong language and light refreshments will be served.
Noontime reading series in action
English department faculty will be reading Feb. 20 at 3 p.m. at the Mountain Writers Center located at 3624 SE Milwaukie Ave.
David Bradley will be reading at the Visual Art Theater Feb. 23 from noon to 1 p.m. Sign up in the Humanities department for a workshop with Bradley from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the Board Room.
