MHCC Forensics Team returned home triumphant from the Phi Rho Pi National Community College Championships this week.

The team consisted of four members from the forensics team: Sean Partch, David Childers, Vince Fisher-Peterson and Shane Hinton who all traveled to the competition in Philadelphia last week.

The team won a bronze in Overall Sweepstakes and a silver medal in the Individual Events Sweepstakes. Childers won a national championship, bringing back gold in both extemporaneous and impromptu speaking. Partch earned bronze medals in the same events.
Forensics team coach Shannon Valdivia said, “I knew David had the ability to go gold. For him to do it in both events was just icing on the cake.”

The team didn’t place in debate, but Valdivia said that she is proud of the team.
“The campus has a lot to be proud of. We’re putting Mt. Hood on the map,” said Valdivia.

The team will be competing this weekend in the Northwest community college forensics championship. Valdivia anticipates that they will place in the top three but said, “We’re shooting for number one. We want it this year. We haven’t won the championship yet.”

MHCC’s team of 12 members will all be attending the championship at Clark College and competing against seven other community colleges from the area.
