Students shine as spring grows bright

As spring term comes into full bloom, people are spending more time hanging out in the Main Mall and MHCC’s atmosphere lightening up.

The fledgling freshmen straight out of high school are starting to get used to living the college lifestyle, the scholastic year is nearing its end and student activities are really starting to pick up.

One of the biggest events of the year is the Rites of Spring celebration put on in the main mall by the student government and local clubs. It is a time to listen to local bands and see what all the cool clubs like Asian Cultures Club, Queers and Allies Student Organization and Baptist Collegiate Ministries have to offer students. Spring becomes a great time for students to connect with students of like minds.

And we can celebrate with our sports teams as many of them enjoy strong winning streaks. Baseball and softball have placed high in the ranks of our region’s athletic programs and expect to finish strong this year.

And while our financial situation as a school is still rocky, President Silverman and others are showing optimism with the results of the recent student polls. Branding efforts are going as planned and enrollment should be on the rise by next year.

Many “teams” on campus have been winning awards and contests. Members of the forensics team recently placed very high in a national competition, including some gold awards. The Green Team has been declared a “GREAT Business” by the City of Gresham for their work in composting and recycling.

MHCC is getting brighter both inside and outside as this academic year draws to a close. We may not be out of the woods yet, but we can see the way out. With this newly afforded foresight, don’t forget to stop and small the many roses MHCC had to offer.
