Artistic talent spreads through gallery |

During the past few weeks, the Visual Arts Center has been showcasing
students work from around the Northwest through the show titled
Next Generation 2004, presented by Print Arts Northwest. The pieces are of different texture; some were woodcut print such as
MHCC student Robert T. Stephens Les Bains des Soleils. Other
textures included screen print and etching such as University of Oregon
student Chad Tolleys untitled. Students from a variety of schools
participated in the showcasing, some selling their artwork from a range
of $20-$500, and others deciding only to showcase their art and not
sell it. The gallery showing opened Oct. 4 and continues through Oct. 22. The
artwork came from various places around the state and Washington, such
as Eastern Oregon University and Washington State University. [There was] a call for artists and students responded with recommendations
by their instructor and submitted pieces, gallery coordinator
Pat Barrett said. The organization in charge of the exhibit is the Traveling Exhibition
of Northwest Collegiate Printmakers. Their next stop will be at Eastern
Oregon University. The Printmakers show only visits every couple of years and it has not
been determined when they will return again, according to Barrett. During November, an exhibit will be held strictly for faculty members, though the date has not been set. |
