This is in response to Jason White's column in Issue 7. First of all, he quoted Howard Stern saying, "Face it people, we’re now living in a religious country whether you like it or not." Perhaps Jason should realize that this country was founded on religious views! People are so blind to this fact it makes me sick. American history is being re-written; only certain bits and pieces are being taught to kids these days making them even more ignorant. Do some research and you will find that when religion was taken out of the system, our country started going down hill.
Thank God we have a man in power that wants to reestablish our country as a religious one. Give it a chance, and I'll bet you will find that things will start looking better.
Second, Measure 26-64 should have passed. Unfortunately people think that the extra tax money is going to the school system when it is really not. Most of that money is going straight into the PERS program, and what's left goes to schools. Are you aware that Oregon has the highest PERS program in the nation? They are going into the process of becoming bankrupt. If people are worried about not enough teachers, they should cut back on their PERS program. That is what Measure 26-64 was all about.
Third, marriage is (and hopefully always will be) between a man and a woman. I believe being gay is a choice, you’re not born gay. It is a lifestyle that is becoming more and more accepted. I have nothing against gay people, just their lifestyle. I believe it is immoral. Oregon is not denying gays and lesbians health services.
I would suggest that Jason do a little more research before he writes his next story. Get a clue man!
