The new director of human resources, Gale Blessing, fills a position that has been open for the past year. The department was considerably understaffed during that time, according to MHCC President Robert Silverman.

Sheri Mosher, who began her career at Mt. Hood as an administrative assistant 26 years ago, served as interim director of human resources until Miller was hired. In recognition of her work Mosher was given a newly created position by the school’s president. She is now the associate director of human resources.

The department handles everything pertaining to personnel at the school such as interviewing, hiring, benefits and payroll, among other tasks, for more than 1,200 employees. While Miller said that she enjoyed the nine and a half years she spent working as the human resources executive manager for the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality, she made the change to Mt. Hood Community College confident that her goals had been met at her previous position.

Miller said she has two main goals for her time here at MHCC. She believes that forming the best possible working relationships with school unions will prove successful. Miller also wants to continue to make efforts in attracting a diverse group of students and faculty to our school.

Since beginning in the human resources field in 1976 Miller has learned that being a good listener and knowing the right questions to ask is beneficial to her field. She has other plans as well, but as she put it, “I’ve only been on the job for eight hours.”
