Metro awards campus NRT

MHCC’s natural resources technology program received the Chinook Award by Metro Parks, Trails and Greenspaces on Jan. 29.
The MHCC program contributed over 500 hours with around 30 students showing up for one Saturday a month, according to Kate Holleran, an instructor for MHCC’s natural resources technology program.
The Metro Chinook Award recognizes “significant contribution to the restoration and monitoring of Metro Parks and Recreation sites [and] is given to groups, not individuals,” Holleran said in an e-mail
As far as future projects for the NRT, Holleran said they “will continue working on our native forest and wetland restoration project located in Beaver Creek Canyon just east of campus,” which they have been working on over the past two years.
The plants and trees they use to replace the invasive plants include Doug fir, Oregon ash, Oregon white oak, the willow and the wild rose.
