Students Welcomed back for Fall

Robert Silverman
President of Mt. Hood Community College

Dear Students:

Welcome to the 2006-2007 school year at Mt. Hood Community College!

I always look forward to fall term when students arrive on campus and bring with them hope and excitement about their futures.

That hope is just one of the reasons I chose to go into the educational field many years ago.

I wanted to be instrumental in helping students achieve their goals and find success. I believe that education is the key to changing the world, but even more important, I believe in you!

I am especially proud of MHCC’s excellent instructors.

We have some of the finest and most qualified instructors in the entire Northwest and they are committed to providing you with the best educational experience possible.

Our customer-friendly staff stands ready to answer your questions and help meet your
needs. We value our diverse community and want you to feel welcome.

If you are here for a degree or certificate, updating your job skills, or for personal enrichment, then you have made the right choice.

MHCC professional-technical programs offer quality education and training in several fields, and we pride ourselves on meeting the needs of students as well as the business and industries that rely on a skilled workforce.

Mt. Hood Community College has partnered with several Oregon universities and as a result we are now able to offer bachelor’s degrees through classes held on our campus.

I also encourage you to get involved in college activities outside of classes. Join one of several clubs, attend athletic events or get involved in students government; you will meet new friends and experience new adventures.

This summer our Board of Education approved a $58.8 million bond measure to go on the November 2006 ballot which will enable MHCC to upgrade our aging facility.

It would increase safety and security for our 26,000 students and 1,300 employees; provide a new Early Childhood Education building for our students and their children; refinance existing college debt and provide matching funds to construct a multipurpose educational center.

Response from the community for this bid has been very good.

I am looking forward to a great year!
