Arts Briefs First issue of MHCC’s Eastview Magazine published A new quarterly magazine titled Eastview has debuted. The magazine has been sent to residents in the MHCC district, but can also be picked up in the MHCC library, Maywood campus, or in Student Services. Expect a full story in our second issue. Libraries hosting sneak previews of Portland theater Central Library and the Hollywood Library will be spotlighting select local theater troupes with previews of upcoming plays on select Sundays between Sept. - Dec. The playhouses involved include Defunkt Theatre, and Artists Repertory Theatre. For more information, call 503-988-5234. Free Museum Day on Sept. 30 On Saturday, select museums across the country will be offering free admission to visitors. The World Forestry Center Discovery Museum, located in Portland’s Washington Park near the zoo, is participating in the one-day event. Benefit concert set, free music and food A free benefit concert will be taking place Oct. 6 from 7 – 9 p.m. At the Eastside Foursquare on Sandy Boulevard. The concert is sponsored by 104.1 fm The Fish. Donations during the event will go to a fund for Ceven Pentecost, a child with leukemia whose family can’t afford his treatment. Live music includes performances by Logan Martin and Tray Michaels. Food will also be free. Call 503-806-7543 for more information. Portland Columbia Symphony Orchestra celebrates 25 years The Portland Columbia Symphony Orchestra will celebrate their 25 year anniversary with their first performance of the season Friday, Oct. 13. The performance will include William Boyce’s Symphony No. 2 and Malcolm Arnold’s Symphony No. 2 Op. 40, among others.
