New women’s basketball coach Brianna Finch is looking to accomplish a lot in her first year as a Saint.

“I’d like to be a little more competitive,” she said. “I think that we are a younger coaching staff this year and we have a lot of new ideas and new things that we’d like to try and we are a little more in tune with how the game has changed and how women’s basketball has changed and we want to take that ideology with us,” Finsh said.

Prior to becoming a full-time coach at Mt. Hood Community College this fall, Finch was an assistant coach at a junior college in California where she worked with mostly post players. She said that working with the players was “a good experience” and that one of her former players is even playing at a respected four-year college now.

She hopes to bring a lot to the MHCC program this season. “We’re already making a lot of improvement,” she said. “I think that we are starting to understand things more every day and as long as we stay healthy I think we are going to be able to win the games at our competition level and be competitive in all of the others. We’re looking to take care of the things that need to be taken care of and definitely compete in the rest and maybe win the unexpected games.”
