Administration to present 2011-2012 budget proposal Wednesday night

The administration will present its official 2011-12 budget proposal at Wednesday's MHCC district board meeting at 6 p.m. in the boardroom.

College President John Sygielski will present his MHCC balanced budget proposal at the meeting and has assured the community he and the administration have "left no stone unturned" when building this proposal.

Challenges the college faces during the next budget cycle, which begins July 1, include cuts being made to community colleges by the state Legislature, increases in P.E.R.S. (Public Employee Retirement System), and the projection of flat enrollment.

Proposed solutions include layoffs of full-time faculty, part-time faculty, and some administrative positions. The proposal may also include a $50 parking fee for students per term and possible tuition hikes.

The board will hear public input after the proposal has been presented.
