Registration dates for winter quarter have been moved to assist students while the college is open.
Web registration for continuing students who have earned 46 or more credit hours will begin Thursday, Nov. 19; web registration for continuing students with less than 46 credits will begin Friday, Nov. 20; and web registration for new students begins Nov. 23.
Dean of Student Services Robert Cox said college officials discussed changing the dates and the idea to change the dates came from faculty and student groups on campus.
Registration dates were originally in the week of Nov. 23 but because of furlough days, MHCC will be closed from Nov. 23 until Nov. 27.
The dates were moved forward to give students more time and the access to more assistance, according to Cox.
New student registration starts on a day off but, Cox said, “People that were advised could register.”
According to Cox, new students are already in advising and he didn’t feel it was fair to not open registration early for new students.
In-person registration will begin Nov. 30, two days before the original Dec. 2 date.
Newly admitted students will receive a letter about the revised registration dates, according to Cox.
Cox said people in the registration office would notify current MHCC students of the change, advising and an all-staff e-mail went out and faculty members have been asked to inform students of the change.
As of Thursday, the MHCC website had not been updated, but Cox said computer services was informed of the change and the change should appear on the MHCC website soon.
Cox said, “It’s important to let people know to register early, because enrollment is up and classes will fill up.”
