Sports Briefs:
Activities board to host soccer
A drop-in-soccer event will be offered every Friday in October from noon to 1 p.m. in the track and field area, according to Jose Hector Santos, the sports event coordinator of the Student Activities Board.
“We’ve got many students on campus that love to play soccer,” said Santos.
MHCC does not have a soccer team and, with a Major League Soccer franchise coming to Portland in 2011, Santos said it would be a good introduction to the game for MHCC students.
Santos said he decided to organize the drop-in-soccer event to “let people know of big events in the future.”
Santos said he is planning on hosting a soccer tournament in the future.
“Everyone will have the opportunity to participate,” said Santos.
The drop-in event will be open to everybody and SAB will provide Gatorade and granola bars to participants.
MHCC to get new cheers at games
The newly formed MHCC cheerleading club will start cheering for the basketball games during winter quarter, according to club member Brianna Fray
The club met for the first time Sept. 24 in the College Center and the next meeting will be Oct. 15 in the College Center to “see how often we can practice,” said Fray.
The club has discussed fundraisers and uniforms, but a definitive schedule for events, practices and uniform has not yet been formed.
