Retired MHCC employee dies
Chris Heideman is remembered as a 'class act'

Former MHCC employee Chris Heideman died Dec. 31.
Heideman was the program coordinator of the Occupational Therapy Assistant Program from 1983 until 2002 when the program was closed. She then became an instructor in the Early Childhood Development Program and department chair of the Allied Health Division.
Early Childhood Education Program Director Ellen White said, “I was very honored to be her colleague and have missed her greatly since she left the college. Her death is a tremendous loss to many.”
White worked closely with Heideman since there were only two fulltime faculty in the ECE program during Heideman’s time in the Early Childhood Development Program.
“From a personal viewpoint, I will miss her smile and sense of humor, her example of grace and acceptance, as well as her professionalism,” White said. “Chris embodied the definition of a ‘class act.’
“From the standpoint of how she supported the ECE program, I know that some of her contributions have had a permanent influence. Her clinical training and experiences led her to suggest some changes in how we teach and assess our students’ work with children – our systems became more focused and effective because of her skills with task analysis, directed teaching and individual goal-setting,” said White.
“She became a friend as well as a colleague to me and I will treasure those memories.”
