Hart said he was pleased for the most part with the performance Saturday of both the men and women at the Southern Region Championship at Clackamas Community College.
The women took second place with 60 points after Lane Community College (31 points), while the men placed fourth with 80 points, with Clark College taking first with 37 points.
Amanda Faggard crossed the finish line first for MHCC in the women’s 5-kilometer run with a time of 19:44 and finished third over all, while Slavic Ishenin finished first for the men in the 8K run with a time of 28:27, coming in 11th.
“We did very well,” assistant coach Keith Maneval said. “I’m particularly happy with the women’s performance.”
Hart said that a number of personal records (PRs) were also set Saturday. “Stacy Bird, Ariana Evensen and Noika Younkin all ran huge PRs,” Hart said. “Amanda Faggard and Gilmer Gongora both ran strong and close to their lifetime PRs.”
Maneval added that “it was rainy all day long” on Saturday, although it didn’t affect either team. “We were prepared for anything,” Maneval said.

Hart said all seven of the men will be competing in the NWAACC championships. He said he is “pretty confident” the scoring five for the women will include Faggard, Bird, Katy Echauri, Amanda Smith and Evensen.
“We won’t make the decision on the other two positions until half an hour from the start of the race,” Hart said.
Maneval said the team will “just keep training hard and preparing to do the best we can” at NWAACCs.
Hart said, “Our expectations are always high. We expect all our student-athletes to do their best. The key is whether their expectations are high for themselves.”
