Baseball impresses during fall ball games

The Saints baseball fallball schedule was almost wrapped up Wednesday until rain struck the field and cancelled the game against Concordia College.
Assistant Coach Justin Speer said the game will be rescheduled for either today or Saturday. “It is up in the air,” said Speer. “We just have to play it by how the weather is.”
As for where the team sits, Speer is very happy with the team right now.
“Our overall decision-making is very impressive,” said Speer. “Seeing how our offense and defense are coming together is awesome.”
With an impressive fallball performance, Speer said it is going to be hard to cut the roster down to size. According to Speer, the team started with more than 50 athletes and are now somewhere in the upper 30s with evaluations and cuts still happening.
“There are just a number of guys and it is hard to evaluate because there are a lot of good guys,” he said. “We will definitely be carrying some guys into winter conditioning and that is where we see how good people really are.”
Speer is excited with his sophomore leadership. He said Taylor Ard and Michael Blake will be key components to a strong team.
“It will be awesome to have Taylor,” he said. “He is a huge leader to have at first base.”
