The first Barney’s Pantry fundraiser ends today with more than $700 in donations, according to Jeannine Retzlaff, ASG director of community affairs.
The initial goal was $500, but when this was raised within the first two weeks, a new goal of $1000 was set.
Barney’s Pantry, located in the College Center, is a place where students can get supplies of free food.
The event took place from Oct. 1 until Oct. 30. “The first two weeks were remarkable,” said Retzlaff.
Retzlaff said a lot of donations came from faculty members and there has even been talk about giving extra credit to students who donate to Barney’s Pantry.
Barney’s pantry accepts donation of food and money throughout the year. The services of Barney’s Pantry used more than four times a day, according to Retzlaff.
Another donation day will be Nov. 20 when ASG is partnering with Panda Express at Gresham Station to raise money. Retzlaff said if a student comes in to Panda Express with a special flyer, 20 percent of the proceeds will be donated to Barney’s Pantry.
Retzaff does the shopping for Barney’s Pantry and said she is looking to buy healthy food and foods with substance, such as chili and Progresso soups, as opposed to soda pop and instant noodles.
Donations for Barney’s Pantry may be dropped off at the ASG office in the College Center.
