Part-time photo instructor helps son through filming

Shawn Records, father of 12-year-old Max Records, the star of the film adaptation of “Where The Wild Things Are,” is also a part-time instructor of photography at MHCC.
The father is taking fall quarter off, however, to deal with the theatrical release of “Where The Wild Things Are.” When contacted Monday, Shawn Records declined to be interviewed, saying, “Sorry, but we are kind of done with media at this point.”
Dana Spielmann, the Professional Photography program director, said, “He wrote to me and said, ‘I can’t really teach this quarter, I have to go to the Venice Film Festival.’ ”
Records will be back teaching winter quarter, Spielmann said. “As far as I know, he’s scheduled to teach next winter,” she said.
Spielmann said Max Records, who plays a child with the same first name in the movie, is pretty much the same child in real life that he plays on screen. “Max is just like his character,” said Spielmann. “He was who he was.”
