Boo Week events lead up to Halloween dance

A variety of Halloween-related activities are scheduled during Boo Week between Monday and Thursday, ending with a “blowout” Halloween dance Thursday evening, according to SAB Seasonal Events Coordinator Collin Miller.

“I love Halloween, it’s a lot of fun and in a college you want to have safe Halloween fun,” Miller said as one reason he chose to organize Boo Week. All the events are free.

Boo Week begins with “Prize in a Haystack.” This event will be in the College Center from noon to 1 p.m. The idea came from the phrase “needle in a haystack,” said Miller.

“We wanted to have good old-fashioned Halloween games,” he said.
The College Center is going to be turned into a movie theater setting on Tuesday, showing “The Shining.” The movie is scheduled to play from 3 to 6 p.m. and popcorn will be provided.

On Wednesday, a mummy competition and race will take place in the College Center from noon to 1 p.m. “There will be teams and the person who is the mummy will have to be dressed up in toilet paper . . . and the mummy will be judged on how fast they are and their mummy technique (sounds they make, their walk, their looks, etc.),” Miller said.

“People love to dress up. It’s a good time,” he said.
The final event of Boo Week is the dance scheduled for Thursday from 8 p.m. to midnight. “It’s like prom, but Halloween-themed,” said Miller.

At last year’s Halloween dance, there were about 100-150 guests, and this year “we’re pushing for 200-250,” said Miller.

There will also be food and drinks at the dance and it is open to anyone. “Bring your friends and family,” he said. There is no age limit.
