'American Ride' shows Keith's diversity

Toby Keith’s 14th studio album, “American Ride,” takes a modern approach to country music by starting with the title track that is a rockin’ guitar and motorcycle-riding-themed song.

Keith talks about real things going on in America now, especially on the title track when he sings “Spill a cup of coffee, make a million dollars.” This song is about being American by loving your country even with all the craziness that goes on.

The eccentric guitar-playing on this album makes country music more interesting to hear. He is definitely helping put country music back on the map with radio stations all over the country with hits like “Cryin’ for Me.”

This CD is one of his best albums because he gets back to his down-home roots and singing about what’s important to him, which makes sense since he wrote all but one of the songs. In addition to his lyrics, Keith shows what is important to him through his statement on the inside of the CD case: “Don’t apologize for being patriotic. Support the Troops.”

This album gives fans some upbeat country rock songs and some slow country love songs that are for all ages, creating the moods with instruments from electric and acoustic guitars to a piano and fiddle. These help Keith’s effort to paint a picture of the perfect American dream for his fans.

Though Toby Keith talks about everything going on in America, both good and bad, he knows how not to put what everyone does in a bad light. Instead, he acknowledges everything with a smile on his face and a song in his heart. That is what allows his album to be listened to by everyone and anyone. In the words of Toby Keith, “I love this American Ride.”
