Mural gives another side of Oregon's history

“The Land,” one of three American Indian exhibits sponsored by the Oregon Historical Society, is now open for observation in the MHCC library.
On display is a standing mural pressed up against the wall displaying Oregon’s native culture. Next to the display is a stand with the words “Oregon is Indian Country” written across the top with pamphlets available giving out the history of the tribes represented in the display. Included in the exhibit is a computer set up with a website displaying Turtle Island commentaries from members of that tribe. Next to that computer is an atlas of Lewis and Clark’s Expedition and Oregon’s Native Country.
Another item displayed in the room is a six-part DVD series titled “We shall remain: America through native eyes” that is available for checkout. The documentary series was directed by MHCC graduate and film director Chris Eyre (“Smoke Signals,” “Skins”).
The exhibit is open for the remainder of the month and will follow the same hours of operation as the library.
The other two exhibits, “Traditions that Bind” and “Federal Indian Policies,” will be held at other locations.
